The Caran d'Ache Varius China Black Mechanical Pencil, Silver-Plated, Rhodium-Coated is crafted by Caran d'Ache, the Swiss Maison de Haute Écriture founded in Geneva in 1915. Every Haute Écriture instrument is produced in the company's Geneva workshops under the “Swiss Made” label and assembled by hand.

The Varius Collection

An accomplished form and hexagonal body with a unique feel: Caran d'Ache's iconic Varius collection is the result of a passionate work of materials, and the only collection to offer fountain pen nibs in up to seven widths.

Its body is dressed in Chinese lacquer, a natural product derived from the sap of the Rhus Vernicifera tree, applied coat after coat over twelve days by Caran d'Ache's lacquer masters and framed in silver-plated, rhodium-coated attributes.

Chinese lacquer. Caran d'Ache is one of the few Western manufacturers to use this ancient and magnificent material. The brilliant black of the Chinese lacquer majestically enhances the body of the Varius™. It blends harmoniously with the silver-plated, rhodium-coated finish. The Varius™ China Black mechanical pencil is equipped with a high-precision mechanism. The quality of the 0.7 mm Graphite leads and the convenience of the replaceable eraser positioned under the push button will be appreciated.
