Bernardaud Care Guide

Bernardaud porcelain is fired at a very high temperature, which makes it hard, nonporous and made for everyday use. Plain and color-decorated pieces are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. Pieces decorated with gold, platinum or another precious metal need a little more care.

Everyday cleaning

• Wash with warm water, regular dish soap and the soft side of a sponge. Never use the abrasive side, which can scratch the decoration, especially gold and platinum.
• If you can't wash dishes right away, rinse them with hot water first.
• Vases, candleholders and other decorative porcelain clean the same way.

Dishwasher

• Choose a low-temperature program and don't use more detergent than recommended.
• Load pieces securely so the water can't knock them into each other and chip them.
• Bernardaud's own guidance also allows gold- and platinum-decorated dinnerware in the dishwasher on a low-temperature program, followed by a wipe with a soft cloth to keep the shine. A few pieces are marked hand wash only on their product page; when a product page is stricter, follow it.

Microwave and oven

• Never microwave anything decorated with gold, silver or platinum; Bernardaud uses a high proportion of precious metal in these decorations.
• Plain porcelain handles a home oven, so you can warm plates or bake in Bernardaud serveware. Keep precious-metal pieces out of the oven.
• Avoid sharp temperature swings: never move a dish from the refrigerator straight into a hot oven, or the reverse.

Gold and platinum

• If a service is rarely used or stored somewhere damp, gold or platinum can tarnish, and cutlery can leave a patina. Polish gently with a soft cloth and a few drops of silver-care solution. Regular use keeps it bright.

Storage

• For plates decorated in the center, place a piece of soft cloth between each plate.
