Waterford Care Guide
Waterford crystal is made to be handed down, and careful washing keeps it as brilliant as the day it arrived.
Everyday cleaning
- Hand wash crystal and glass one piece at a time in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free cloth.
- When washing or drying, never twist the bowl in the opposite direction to the stem.
Dishwasher, microwave and oven
- Avoid the dishwasher: its heat, friction and detergent can dull or scratch the surface.
- Never use crystal in a microwave or conventional oven.
Temperature
- Extreme temperatures can crack crystal. Don't pour hot liquids into cold crystal, or very cold liquids into warm crystal.
Storage
- Rims are the most fragile part of a glass, so don't turn glasses upside down to dry or store them.
Decanters and carafes
- Before first use, fill with an equal mix of vinegar and water and leave overnight, then wash the inside with warm, soapy water, rinse and dry.
- Don't keep food or drinks in crystal for long periods, and change the contents often to protect the inside surface from film.
Colored crystal and candleholders
- Color-coated crystal: keep it away from bleach and solvents, and from rings, knives and other rough or sharp objects. Never put it in the dishwasher; hand wash it separately and dry it carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Don't let a candle burn within 1 inch of its holder.
