William Yeoward Care Guide
William Yeoward crystal is made by hand. It is robust, but a little care in washing, drying and storage keeps it brilliant for many years.
Washing
- Wash by hand in a plastic bowl of warm water with a mild detergent, one piece at a time.
- Rinse in clear warm water and set each piece on a drainer.
- Dry while still warm with a soft, dry cloth. Hold a wine glass by the bowl while drying the stem and foot, and never hold the foot while drying the bowl, which can twist the bowl off.
Dishwasher
William Yeoward recommends against the dishwasher. High temperatures and detergents soon damage the surface of fine crystal and can leave a gray film that cannot be removed. Occasional use may do no harm if you take the pieces out and dry them by hand.
Temperature
- Crystal can break with a rapid change in temperature, so don't put it in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Don't stand cold crystal on a hot surface, or the reverse, and don't put a cold piece such as an ice bucket straight into hot water.
Decanters and vases
- Wash and dry decanters soon after use; liquid left for more than a few days can leave stains inside that are hard to remove. Vases need the same care, because limescale from water can mark the inside.
- Store empty decanters with the stopper out, so condensation can't stain them.
Storage and candles
- Store glasses right side up, never on their rims, which are the weakest part.
- Don't let candles burn too low in candlesticks and hurricanes, since the heat can damage them, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
