Thanksgiving is the one holiday built entirely around the table, and few makers dress that table as beautifully as Herend. Since 1826, Herend's artists in Herend, Hungary have painted every piece of porcelain by hand, including a small, much-loved family of autumn figurines: turkeys, pumpkins, squash and acorns in Herend's signature fishnet pattern. Here is our guide to Herend for Thanksgiving, from a show-stopping turkey platter to place card holders for every guest.

Herend Turkey Figurines

A Herend turkey on the sideboard or at the center of the table is a Thanksgiving tradition in many collecting families.

  • Herend Turkey Figurine: A 4.5-inch-tall turkey, hand painted in the fishnet pattern. Available in Rust and Chocolate.
  • Herend Tom Turkey Figurine: A smaller tom turkey, 3.25 inches tall, that is easy to group or to set at each end of the table. Available in Rust, Chocolate, Butterscotch and Blue.
  • Herend Wild Turkey Figurine: A hand-painted wild turkey, about 7.75 inches tall, for the collector who wants a true centerpiece.

Herend Turkey Platters

The turkey platter is the piece the whole meal is built around. Herend makes it in several of its classic patterns.

Setting a Herend Thanksgiving Table

Start with the turkey platter as the anchor, then line the center of the table with a mix of pumpkin, acorn squash and acorn figurines. Mixing two or three fishnet colors (for example Rust, Butterscotch and Chocolate) gives the classic autumn look. Finish with an acorn place card holder at each seat, and bring out the turkey and pumpkin dessert plates and mugs with the pie.
