Gien Pont aux Choux White
Pont aux Choux is older than Gien itself. The name belongs to a Paris manufactory established in 1748 on former moats turned market gardens, where cabbages grew and a small bridge, the 'pont aux choux', led across. Around 1750 that factory developed a raised 'grain of rice' relief on white earthenware, and in 1819 Thomas Hall acquired the business along with the pattern before founding the Faïencerie de Gien in 1821. The white Pont aux Choux service keeps that 18th-century relief exactly, which is why it suits both period interiors and very modern tables. Gien also glazes the same cups in a range of solid colors.
Gien Pont aux Choux White is French faience by Gien, made in the town of Gien on the Loire since 1821.
