How do I choose Bernardaud dinnerware?
Build each place setting from the dinner plate up – service plate, 10.5-inch dinner plate, 8.5-inch salad or dessert plate, bread and butter plate, cup and saucer. Start with an everyday white such as Origine, then add a formal gold or platinum pattern like Ecume if you wish.
- Choose Origine if you want white Limoges porcelain for every day – it is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe.
- Choose Ecume Or or Ecume Platine if you want a formal pattern with gold or platinum – and keep those pieces out of the microwave.
- Choose Botanique if you like a different flower on each plate to mix around the table.
- Choose the Noël collection if you are setting a holiday table.
Bernardaud is the Limoges porcelain house founded in 1863. From its workshops in Limoges, France, it has supplied fine tables for more than 160 years, pairing the region's famed kaolin porcelain with contemporary artistry. If you are choosing a wedding pattern, building a service piece by piece or setting a holiday table, here is our guide to Bernardaud dinnerware.
Paris Tableware & Gifts, a store in Ridgewood, New Jersey, carries Bernardaud porcelain and ships it across the continental US, with free shipping on orders over $150.
Made in Limoges, France
Every Bernardaud piece is Limoges porcelain, made in France. Many designs are finished by hand with gold or platinum – in pattern names, Or is French for gold and Platine for platinum.
About delivery: pieces in stock ship within 3–5 business days. Pieces made to order by Bernardaud take 3–4 weeks. Each Bernardaud product page carries this note.
Building a Bernardaud Place Setting
A place setting is built from the dinner plate up. Here is what each piece is for:
- Service plate (charger) – pretty and practical, it highlights the dinner plate placed on top.
- Dinner plate – about 10.5 inches, used to present the main course and often placed on the charger.
- Salad or dessert plate – about 8.5 inches.
- Bread and butter plate – for bread, canapés or fruit.
- Cup and saucer – tea, breakfast or espresso size.
For where each piece goes on the table, see our guide to how to set a table. Browse all Bernardaud dinnerware or Bernardaud plates.

Bernardaud on a Wedding Registry
- Choose one everyday pattern (Origine is made for it) and, if you like, one formal pattern with gold or platinum.
- Register for full place settings rather than single pieces, so guests can give a complete setting.
- Pieces are sold individually or in sets, so the service can grow over the years.
- Remember the 3–4 week lead time for made-to-order pieces.
Our wedding registry guide walks through what to register for, and the wedding registry page explains how registering with us works.
Caring for Bernardaud Porcelain
Bernardaud's care notes for Origine: it is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe unless decorated with precious metals. If you wash by hand, use warm water, mild dish soap and the soft side of a sponge, and avoid anything abrasive to keep the porcelain's finish. Pieces with gold or platinum should stay out of the microwave.
