How do I set a fall table with Gien Sologne?
Sologne is Gien's French faience pattern of watercolor deer, game birds and hunting dogs in warm browns. Lay a rust, moss or oatmeal runner, mix the assorted plates so each guest finds a different animal, and add dried wheat, small gourds and candles in glass.
- Choose the Gien Set of 6 Assorted Dessert Plates, Dogs, if they are dog lovers.
- Choose the Young Wildlife dessert plates if it is for a family table.
- Choose the 14 oz XL mug instead of the 9 oz Stag mug if they like a bigger cup.
- Choose the Gien Letter Tray if you want an easy hostess gift for the season.
When the leaves turn, the table can turn with them. Gien's Sologne pattern was made for this time of year: soft watercolor deer, game birds and hunting dogs in warm browns and russets, on French faience made in Gien, in the Loire Valley. It feels like a walk in the woods – and it is easy to live with from September through the holidays.

About the Sologne Pattern
Sologne is the work of the artist Estelle Rebottaro, a portrait of the forests and wildlife of the Sologne – the hunting country just south of the Loire. Every piece is French faience (fine earthenware), shaped and decorated at Gien's manufactory, which has worked on the banks of the Loire since 1821. Because each plate in an assorted set carries a different animal, no two place settings look quite the same.
Paris Tableware & Gifts, a store in Ridgewood, New Jersey, carries Gien faience and ships across the continental US, with free shipping on orders over $150.

Setting a Fall Table with Sologne
- Lay a warm base – a linen runner in rust, moss or oatmeal brings out the browns in the artwork.
- Mix the animals – let each guest find a different dog or bird on their plate; it starts the conversation.
- Bring the outdoors in – dried wheat, small gourds and candles in glass are all the centerpiece you need.
- Add one solid color – a plain plate under the dessert plate makes the pattern stand out.
