About the Grands Oiseaux Pattern
The birds on Grands Oiseaux come from Félix Bracquemond, the painter-engraver who introduced Japanese-print aesthetics to French decorative art, and they have appeared on Gien plates since 1870. Rooster, heron, woodcock, crane and pelican each occupy the center of a piece like a single studied portrait. See the whole Gien Grands Oiseaux collection.
